R&M Consulting Group is a San Diego-based firm focused on nonprofit management and performance, with over forty years of experience in the community development field at the international, national, state, and local level.
Mariano Diaz, Sr., Lead Partner, is a native of Los Angeles and has lived and worked throughout California including the Central Valley, the Bay Area, and San Diego/Imperial Counties. As one of five children raised by a single mother, he experienced firsthand how poverty impacts families and people of color living in disinvested communities. As a product of the Sixties, Mariano is the beneficiary of social movements and leadership that brought radical changes to policy and politics demanding equity and access for future generations. This fortunate background has propelled him to continually seek and understand how community engagement, planning, and capital investments can serve as tools to improve individual, family, and community health now and into the future.
Professionally, Mariano has held senior management positions with Nike, Neslte USA, YMCA, San Diego Foundation, and the Local Initiatives Support Corporationin the practice of comprehensive community development. As a volunteer, Mariano serves/has served on the board of directors/committees of The Museum of Man, Funders Network for Smart Growth & Liveable Communities, California Association of Nonprofits, Council on Foundations, Conference Board, Housing California, and the California Rural Legal Assistance Fund.

Mariano “Pops” Gregorio Diaz is Director of Social Media for R&M Consulting Group with responsibility for the design and implementation of effective strategies to create internet awareness, action, and solutions to community issues.
Mariano embraces a combined qualitative and quantitative approach to research, policy, and problem solving regarding the societal inequalities of race, class, and gender. Updating this approach he utilizes social media’s ability to organize, disrupt, and influence ideas, conversation, and behavior.
In working with nonprofits, Mariano employs popular culture, music, arts, and current generational attitudes in his research of strategies, programs, and messaging for authentic solutions. These activated organizations then promote relevant messaging and content regarding their brand, their work, and their communities. The outcome is an organizational increase in the ability to effectively fundraise by organically reaching a new generation of relevant donors eager to change the world.
Mariano earned his BA Degree in Sociology from St. John’s University in New York City and his Master of Arts Degree in Advanced Research/Sociology from St. John’s University.
